Amazon, GSIA, SSPIA Hold Talks to Support New Amazon Initiative to Drive Online Sales of Security Equipment

Shenzhen, China (April 15, 2013): The Global Security Industry Alliance (GSIA) and the Shenzhen Security Protection Industry Association (SSPIA) hosted Amazon U.S. and Global Purchasing Director, Heather Cartwright and her team at their headquarters office to discuss Amazon's plans to expand deeper into the sale of security products online.

“This will be a game changer for small to medium companies in China that are looking for wider sales of 'Do-It-Yourself' and 'Buy-It-Yourself' security products in the US market and beyond," says GSIA Chairman, Richard Chace. "With Amazon planning on buying products directly from Chinese manufacturers, inventorying them in the U.S. and also serving as customer service for any technical or return issue, they will cause many U.S. dealers, installers and distributors some grief as customers will have access to online instructional video and customer support for installation. But this industry needs to wake up to this new on-line retail paradigm and companies such a Amazon will only get bigger and stronger globally as they help to bring more products to a wider global audience. The key will be to make sure the technology offered reflects the high standards of Amazon and what we as a global security industry can do to support smart product selection and specification.” says Chace.

The SSPIA represents over 4500 electronic security equipment manufacturers and is prepared to assist Amazon in helping those manufactures take advantage of this new market opportunity.

"Chinese manufacturers have for years tried to work through trade shows and security events in the U.S. and have met with limited success in gaining more market penetration," says SSPIA Chairman, Jincai Yang. "This service that Amazon is offering will open doors for Chinese manufacturers of all sizes and work to help consumers make sound choices."

“Yet above all else GSIA and SSPIA members think this Amazon platform will ultimately promote security best practices and applications that responsibly identify ways to secure our local, national and global interests while respecting the cultural diversity of the very community it represents,” says Chace. “We are excited to be considered to participate of this project and look forward to connecting and serving more members of the global security community through the Amazon platform.”
