GSIA Roundtable in Xinjiang Gathered Top Security Experts to Discuss Anti-terrorism Solutions

Xinjiang, China (August 8, 2014):On Aug 8, Global Security Industry Alliance (GSIA) security experts from around the globe were invited to the China Eurasia Security Expo (CAESE) for a security roundtable to discuss current global trends influencing terrorism as well as technologies and best practices being effectively employed to counter acts of terrorism. This inaugural event marked the first time that such an issue was headlined at GSIA conference in China and it focused on how better understand the interconnectedness of global security threats.

Over the past two years, the CAESE has evolved to become part of the existing Xinjiang Police Equipment and Social Public Security Expo and is developing into a key event for the security industry in North-western China. This year the CAESE was jointly organized by GSIA, Shenzhen Security and Protection Industry Association (SSPIA), Xinjiang Security and Protection Industry Association (XSPIA) and the Xinjiang International Exhibition Center and will be held every two years from 2014.

Xinjiang, home to the Muslim Uighur people and several other ethnic groups, has been beset for years with issues concerning separatism, terrorism and extremism. Since terrorism has constituted a great threat to the security of the Xinjiang people, CAESE sought out GSIA to organize a event local law enforcement could hear from and meet security experts from around the world. The event was filled to capacity and by invitation only with seating for 150 invited guests from the Ministry of Public Safety and national and local law enforcement.

The Roundtable was opened by his Honor, Song Yajun, the Mayor of Urumqi, Xinjiang, where he outlined the need for increased global cooperation on fighting terrorism. Following the Mayor’s opening remarks, Chairman of GSIA, Mr. Richard Chace, presented a keynote speech that focused on the interconnectivity of global security threats and how there is a profound need to adopt more transparent risk mitigation strategies at the global level; John Dagklis, of Shadow Close Protection from Greece, presented on trends and anti-terrorism solutions being used around the world; and security solution specialist, Konstantin Sosenko, from Adani Systems illustrated some of the latest trends in border security system technologies.

The Roundtable allowed for questions to be asked by the attendees and experts expressed their own views on topics ranging from the use of training protocols/standards and why these are critical to effective anti-terror and personal protection tactics that can be employed by local governments, law enforcement and the private sector.

“Xinjiang occupies a unique and ancient symbolic position as it still sits as a “Silk Road” economic gateway city to western Asia and eastern Europe,” said Richard Chace, Chairman of the GSIA. “Yet an unstable security situation or poorly understood cause and effect of interconnected security risks can undermine economic and social development. These GSIA roundtables work to provide a platform from which security experts from all around the world can share information and best practices to those who are leading in the development of policies and practices designed to create a safer and more secure world.”
